To say that I love landscapes and nature is an understatement. Over the years, I have picked up and overheard my share of landscape and nature quotes. Some were good and made perfect sense some didn’t.
Some roled off of the lips of hardened men a lot of those quotes I remember being in Spanish. You see if you’ve worked in landscape and gardening, you’re going to have to work with the Hispanic man. During some of these tough work times, I’ve worked with Mexicans, Hondurans, Guatemalans, and Cubans, and a lot of them just spoke Spanish but they all had their sayings.
I have bought and received many landscapes, and gardening books all have been great treasures in my library. Reading these books, you will come across many corny quips and quotes concerning landscapes and gardens, but I’ve always enjoyed the author’s attempts.
Landscape and Nature Quotes I like
The artist David Byrne’s quote, ” I’ve have been in many beautiful landscapes where one is tempted to pull out one’s camera, but I resist that” is a favorite nature quote of mine.
I have created landscapes I’ve been proud of; I’ve also walked through jaw-dropping landscapes around the world. The Jardin de Plantes-Luxembourg Garden in Paris with its crisp towering hedges is a sight to see. It is also a place that my wife and I sat and read landscape quotes while having lunch.
The Luxembourg Garden reminds of a quote by Ruth Wilson, “I’m a tragedienne in some way. I think quite epically. I like epic landscapes and grand emotions.” the Picture above is a shot I took in the Luxembourg Gardens the hedges were 30 feet high and perfectly manicured. Trees sculpted like this are something I have never seen in America, they were epic and a great frame for a monumental garden.
For a while, I worked at the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens in Coral Gables, Florida. Every day was a wonder; I remember eating lunch under a blooming Jacaranda Tree thinking of the nature quote “Happiness is sitting under a Jacaranda Tree in bloom”. It made me smile, even though the heat and humidity on the job were breathtaking. Fairchild is a large garden south of Miami. I worked there for a year for free to learn about tropical landscapes after moving to Coral Gables from Atlanta Ga.
Over my 25 years of serving nature, I’ve have had epiphanies, digging a hole, and after your 50th hole, you’ve worked through some things. Repetitive work lets your mind drift, you can dwell on interesting things in your landscape and garden, or you can dwell on the pain of digging holes.
Another one of my favorite quotes my wife turned me onto is “The landscape affects the human psyche – the soul, the body and the innermost contemplations – like music. Every time you feel nature deeper you resonate better with her, finding new elements of balance and freedom” by Nikos Kazantzakis.
This is a perfect nature and landscape quote. If a person can calm their mind and slow their soul, they will feel the landscape and the landscape will calm them and they will feel at one with their surroundings.
